Simultaneous attempts are being made to focus on the issue of distress migration of people from rural areas to cities. EFSA envisages an equal rural and urban balance for sustainable development through active participation of the local communities, especially marginalized women in the socio, economic and political decision making processes at the local level. The strategies adopted to address the rapid rural urban migration would fall back heavily on culturally specific and sustainable ecologically integrated alternatives such as solidarity economy, food security, and sustainable agriculture in rural areas.


Bellari Migrants Community

Understanding poverty in a metropolitan city like Bangalore( with specific focus on the poor) requires more attention in understanding of the various socio, economic, political, cultural processes of the poor and low income groups living in the urban slums. Their development needs a new approach; one that is unconventional, decentralized, and sustainable.

Income Generation Slums of Thanisandra Ward, Bangalore

About 50 marginalized women in Thanisandra ward were provided with skill training by a social entrepreneur in making greeting cards for all occasions to augment their supplementary income and participate in the economic activities of their respective families.
